Kandersteg 2017

Our County are organising a trip to Kandersteg in Summer 2017 for Scouts and Explorers and we would like to encourage as many as possible from the District to take part in this expedition. If you’re a leader or helper with another section and would like to help with a Scout Troop or the Explorer contingent, please get in touch.

We had a great time with lots of amazing Scouting experiences when we went as a District and if we can support our current Scouts and Explorers to take part again, it will be a fantastic opportunity for them.

To help leaders, parents and young people find out what it is all about, we’ve arranged a presentation and Q&A session with Richard Williams, Expedition Leader, on Saturday 30th April at Hillside School, Northwood Way, Northwood, HA6 1RX, 10:00-11:00, or longer for questions.  A number of us who went on the District Expedition will be there as well.

Please encourage everyone to attend the presentation – even if young people can’t make it due to sports or music or whatever, encourage their parents to come.

The cost will be in the region of £580, plus daytime activities.  We would expect to do individual, Group and District fund-raising to help support that.

Kandersteg 2017 – Information from GLMW

While the rest of London is still sleeping, at around 5:30am on a day early in August 2017, the first group of Scouts, Explorer Scouts and Leaders from GLMW will be checking-in at Heathrow Airport for a flight to Switzerland. Over the following eleven hours, some 650 participants will follow them on a journey via Zurich or Geneva, on aeroplanes, trains via Bern and buses along the beautiful Kandertal valley to the Kandersteg International Scout Centre. Do you want to be one of those people?

In August 2017 the county will be organising an 11 day expedition to the Kandersteg International Scout Centre, young people from all walks of life in GLMW can experience activities as diverse as camping and hiking in the high alps, walking and climbing on a glacier, parascending, white water rafting, meeting a wide range of international visitors to the Centre, spending the night in a Swiss mountain hut, tackling a high ropes course, going canyoning, visiting numerous cultural attractions in the Bernese Oberland region of Switzerland and participating in community support projects.

Registrations are now open for the expedition – both for groups of young people and those who’d like to join the expedition staff team. More information and the registration forms are now available online at www.glmwscouts.org.uk/kandersteg2017, take a look at the expedition Facebook page at www.facebook.com/kandersteg2017 or follow the expedition on twitter @kandersteg2017.
